Fast, simple, not expensive, little errata, but only reasonably fun. (War game Review)

In his review on BoardGameGeek, Brendan Whyte first turns a critical eye towards the components and rules and lists their shortcomings. Game play fares better: “…the game is fast and quite fun”. Whyte then goes into comprehensive details covering game mechanics and spares no criticism for the game opponent (AI). His discussion concerning solitaire board games vs solitaire computer games is very interesting.

Ligny 1815

"...in the lower part of the village, the French are ejected from their foothold and two regiments rout. The first assault has been held off!" Norm Smith, in Battlefields & Warriors, brings us an action packed replay of Hexasim's Ligny 1815: Last Eagles, playing the full historical scenario. Can the French recover, or do the Prussians press their advantage? Join Norm to see why "…it just goes to show how things can turn in the last moments."

Attack St. Amands 1815

"This is my ‘go to’ Napoleonic boardgame system..."! Norm Smith, in Battlefields & Warriors, brings us an intense replay of Hexasim's Ligny 1815: Last Eagles, this time with Scenario 1, the battle for St. Amand and La Haye. Events are back and forth: "...the Prussians down at St. Amand are coming under increasing pressure and taking losses...", and "...the French put in an early assault on La-Haye, hoping to make progress before Prussian reinforcements arrive, but it is a disaster." How does it come out?

Fighting in the streets 1815

"The French player is aware that speed is of the essence before the Prussians become too strong to be ejected from the village." Norm Smith, in Battlefields & Warriors, returns to a favorite game system in Hexasim's Ligny 1815: Last Eagles. Norm has "an excellent couple of hours at the table with this game system", and reaches a tipping point: "4 PM Gérard has a real dilemma. He has three units routing from the field and he has the Prussians under pressure."

Battlefields & Warriors - Fighting for the streets of Ligny 1815

From Norm Smith: "This is the Streets of Ligny, an introductory scenario from the Ligny 1815 module by Hexasim in their Eagles series. To ready myself for a game of Hexasim's newest game, Quatre Bras, I put up the excellent introductory scenario for Streets of Ligny (from the Ligny module), to get the rules under my belt again.

As always, an enjoyable game and tough for the French. I have put some comment on the blog and also provided links to other blog articles that look at the system and the full battle of Ligny."
